Welcome to “Spencer & Lakes Regional Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery”! We are happy to serve you for your oral surgical needs with a focus on patient care and comfort. We have three convenient locations: Spencer IA, Spirit Lake IA, and Worthington, MN.
Our sole practitioner, Dr. Karen Potaczek started this oral surgery practice after purchasing “Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates (OMAX)” from Dr. John Synhorst who retired December 2013.
Prior to starting Spencer & Lakes Regional OMS, Dr. Potaczek worked for several years in the Quad Cities’ Davenport, IA. She also has taught part-time at the University of Iowa Oral Surgery Clinic since 2011.
Prior to her dental training Dr. Potaczek had several years of experience in dentistry as a dental assistant for a periodontist and oral surgeon in Milwaukee WI.
Dr. Potaczek graduated summa cum laude from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Sciences. She was Valedictorian of her graduating dental class from Marquette University School of Dentistry. Dr. Potaczek completed her residency in Oral Surgery at University of Cincinnati Medical Center where she had several research interests dealing with bone grafting and dental implant placement, sedation and anesthesia, and facial trauma. She is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
About relocating to northwest Iowa, she comments, “I like the Midwest. I grew up in a small town in central Wisconsin and enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, rollerblading, walking and swimming. I look forward to exploring the area and to serving the local community.”

***Breaking news: Our new Spencer IA location is under construction on Grand Ave next to Walgreens!!! Depending on weather and building schedules, we plan to relocate there by May 2015 in order to be even more accessible for our patients.
