Welcome to “Spencer & Lakes Regional Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery”! We are happy to serve you for your oral surgical needs with a focus on patient care and comfort. We have two convenient locations: Spirit Lake IA and Worthington, MN.
Our sole practitioner, Dr. Karen Potaczek started this oral surgery practice after purchasing “Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates (OMAX)” from Dr. John Synhorst who retired December 2013. Since this transition Dr. Potaczek has done several things to update the practice including installing state of the art equipment in two brand new facility locations in Spencer and Spirit Lake IA and in our newly remodeled Worthington MN facility, endeavors she states were so important she did not wait long to start and complete them.
Prior to starting Spencer & Lakes Regional OMS, Dr. Potaczek worked for several years in the Quad Cities’ Davenport, IA. She also has taught part-time at the University of Iowa Oral Surgery Clinic for several years.
Prior to her dental training Dr. Potaczek had several years of experience in dentistry as a dental assistant for a periodontist and an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Milwaukee WI.
Dr. Potaczek graduated summa cum laude from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Sciences. She was Valedictorian of her graduating dental class from Marquette University School of Dentistry. In 2010, Dr. Potaczek completed her four year residency in Oral Surgery at University of Cincinnati Medical Center where she had several research interests dealing with bone grafting and dental implant placement, sedation and anesthesia, and facial trauma. She is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
After relocating to northwest in 2013, she has found a great interest in serving her local communities for all three of her office locations by not only providing oral surgery to the community but by also donating to local sports and other community programs. She states “Living in northwest Iowa feels similar but better to where I grew up in the small town of Medford in central Wisconsin. I enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, boating, and swimming. I look forward to meeting you and serving you as part of this community.”
